A man who spiked treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was concerning a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated Ruben continued to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson called the police again.
She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a room of five children.
