Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
